Organized by Mandd Sobhann, the awards will be presented in six categories – best singer – male and female, best music composer, best lyricist, best music arranger and best music album – 2010. A jury has shortlisted three nominees each in each of these six categories out of 248 nominations received this year.
Eric Ozario, gurkaar of Mandd Sobhann, said the panel has considered Konkani albums released in 2010, anywhere in the world, in any dialect of Konkani for these awards. All the top three nominees in each category will be honoured at the awards ceremony.
The winners, names of whom will be announced at the function, will receive Rs 25,000 each in cash, and a trophy, Eric said and added that another jury is finalizing the winners.
Priya Menezes (Hosabettu), Nephretari Pradhan (Mumbai) and Sangeetha Balachandar (Udupi) are in the reckoning for best singer female; Melwyn Peris (Mangalore), Anthony San (Goa) and Prakash D’Souza (Bajpe) for best singer male; Sidhanath Buyao (Goa), Roshan D’Souza (Angelore), Melwyn Peris for best music composer; and late Baikbab Borkar (Goa), Melwyn Anthony D’Souza (Mangalore) and Ramesh Veluskar (Goa) for best lyricist.
Joel Pereira (Mangalore), Stephen Praveen Dutt (Bangalore), and Darrel Mascarenhas (Puttur) will vie for best music arranger, and Anand Satoskar (Goa), Fr Alwyn Sequeira (Mangalore), and Neeta Peris (Mangalore) for the best music album. ‘Konkani Abolem’ title will be conferred on Joyce Ozario for her service to Konkani music for the last 40-years. Sax Trumpet ensemble of Tiatr Academy, Goa and Nach Sobhann will entertain the audience.
